MOSCOW - Migration is a growth opportunity for all countries involved, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said in an interview with Russian news agency Tass on Wednesday.

"Migration can be turned into an additional opportunity for growth and development for all the countries tackling this phenomenon: the countries of emigration, the countries of transit and the countries of final destination," Gentiloni said.

The "crisis situation" particularly in the Mediterranean and Middle East and the "problem of migration and refugees" will be discussed at the G7 summit in Taormina next year. "Italy's presence on the UN Security Council along with France, Japan, Great Britain and the US (members of the G7) will help the creation of a common vision" concerning international current affairs, the minister said.

"We hope that the work at the Security Council will allow Russia to participate constructively in the search for solutions," he added. "Further, we believe that the G7 can make an important contribution alongside international partners, including Russia, to the fight against terrorism and extremism," Gentiloni said.

Italy also intends to include the issues of stabilisation and development in Africa, and particularly in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, on the G7 agenda, the minister added. "Events in these countries have an impact on Europe and consequently influence the whole world," Gentiloni said.
