(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 7 - The leader of Tunisia's Islamic party Ennhadha, Rached Ghannouchi, will receive on Monday in Mumbai, India, the 2016 prize awarded by the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation to promote Gandhian values outside of India.

The ceremony will be attended by members of the Indian government.

The foundation awards every year a number of prizes to celebrate the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, including one to an international personality for contributing to peace in the world and defending human rights. Ghannouchi's political advisor, Lofti Zitoun, defines the prize as a homage to all of Tunisia for its successful democratic transition for which Ghannouchi has contributed in working to ''search for consensus between different sites that allowed to avoid a scenario of clashes in Tunisia''.

Last year the International Crisis Group awarded to Tunisian politicians Rached Ghannouchi and Beji Caid Essebsi, the current president, the prize 'pioneers for the construction of peace' for the mediation role undertaken during the national dialogue process in 2013. (ANSAmed).
