(ANSAmed) - ROME, AUGUST 24 - Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj will participate in the first session of the Paris summit scheduled for August 28, together with Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou and Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno, ANSA has learned.

The summit, which will focus on stability in Libya and the migrant crisis, will also be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Premier Paolo Gentiloni, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

Al-Sarraj was chosen to attend this session of the summit with the four European leaders because they will be discussing Libyan stability as well as Africa-Europe relations with regards to the migrant crisis. Absent, however, will be Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, the strongman in Tobruk, whom Macron recognised officially as such by inviting him on July 25 to Paris for a meeting with al-Sarraj, with the ambition of trying to reconcile opposing factions in Libya.(ANSAmed).
