Anti-IS coalition to meet in Amman mid-November

13 November, 16:32

(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, NOVEMBER 13 - Jordan will host this month an international meeting that includes the EU, NATO, Interpol, the Arab league and dozens of representatives of governments from around the world, on means of fighting growing influence of the Islamic State (IS), officials said today.

According to Jordan foreign ministry spokesman, Mohammad Kayed the gathering comes at an important milestone after the capture of Mosel and Raqa from IS earlier this year. The meeting is a continuation of a previous ministerial gathering held by foreign ministers of the small group in September in New York on the side-lines of the 72nd conference of the UN General Assembly.

The Global Coalition was formed in September 2014 and comprises 69 countries and four international organisations: Arab League, NATO, Interpol and EU. According to its objectives, the alliance is working on tackling IS financing and economic infrastructure, preventing the flow of foreign fighters across borders, supporting stabilization and the restoration of essential public services to areas liberated from the group.
