12 March, 20:12

(ANSAmed) - ROME, MARCH 12 - The ministerial level meeting "Lebanon, building trust: a viable security for the country and the region" will be held on Thursday, March 15 at the Italian foreign ministry for support of Lebanese security forces. Opening remarks at the conference will be made by Italian foreign minister Angelino Alfano, followed by speeches by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri and UN chief Antonio Guterres. Alfano said that 40 countries will take part in the meeting - announced in October during Hariri's last visit to Rome and mentioned in a joint statement adopted on the sidelines of the International Support Group (ISG) for Lebanon meeting in Lebanon on December 8 - and that it ''will constitute a chance to show broad international support for the process started by the Lebanese government to strengthen the skills and effectiveness of security forces in order to support the country's sovereignty and independence and its institutions.'' He added that the conference is part of a ''roadmap of three events on Lebanon (in Rome, Paris and Brussels) planned by ISG to accompany the country along a path of stability and grow, as part of a concrete and lasting dissociation from regional crises.''
