14 June, 11:26

(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JUNE 14 - Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Abu Mazen on Thursday hailed a UN General Assembly vote in favor of a resolution criticizing Israel's ''excessive use of force'' against Palestinian protesters at the Gaza border during weeks of clashes.

''The vote is a victory for the rights of Palestinians, for justice and international law'', he said.

The resolution - which was approved with 120 yes votes against eight no votes (including the US and Israe)l and 45 abstentions - also requested the ''protection of the Palestinian civil population''.

Israel and the US criticized the resolution as one-sided and not useful. (ANSAmed)
