Tajani says EU turning away from migrants 'unacceptable'

EP president calls for approval of mandatory distribution

    (ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JANUARY 28 - European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, tweeted on Monday that it is "unacceptable" for European Union countries to "turn away from what is happening in the Mediterranean".

    "In so doing, they betray the European project and citizens' expectations. Immediately approve the accord on mandatory distribution voted by the European Parliament," Tajani tweeted.

    Tajani's comments came with regard to the latest developments regarding the NGO vessel Sea Watch, which has been carrying 47 rescued migrants aboard since Saturday, January 19, and has not yet been assigned a safe port for landing.(ANSAmed).
