CoR's Lambertz urges EU to back Med regional cooperation

ARLEM plenary draws up priorities, climate number one

    (ANSAmed) - BARCELONA, JANUARY 23 - ''The situation in the Mediterranean is complex but there is no reason to reduce exchanges'' between EU cities and regions and partner countries to the south, President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Karl-Heinz Lambertz noted at a plenary session of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM) on Wednesday. He stressed that ''there is instead the need for cooperation backed by EU funds and neighborhood policies''. ARLEM includes EU Mediterranean countries as well as Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Palestine, Monaco, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Montenegro. During the meeting, ARLEM representatives drew up the priorities for the next two years. The shared action plan calls for efforts to fight climate changes as well as to bring in sustainable territorial development, increase employment, digitalization efforts, policies to support women.(ANSAmed).
