(ANSAmed) - ROME, JULY 9 - Italian foreign minister Luigi Di Maio took part via videoconference Wednesday afternoon in a session of the UN Security Council on Libya.

The session was organised by the German presidency in a format that included all countries that took part in the Berlin Conference.

The meeting was chaired by German foreign minister Heiko Mas and included participation by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. It served as a chance to reaffirm the international community's support for UN efforts to achieve a halt to hostilities and to promote peace and security in Libya.

Di Maio reaffirmed Italy's firm support for the Berlin Process according to four priority lines of action: an end to all external interference violating the UN embargo, the reaching of an agreement on an effective ceasefire, reviving without delay of political dialogue to foster a fully inclusive solution, and a timely resumption of oil production.

In order to restore momentum to the mediating action of the UN in the country, the minister underscored the urgency to name a new UN Special Representative for Libya. (ANSAmed).
