ROME - Italian ships and aircraft will patrol international waters off Tunisia to report sightings of migrant boat departures from the North African country to its authorities, in a plan shared by Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese and her French counterpart Gerald Darmanin during a meeting on Friday at the Italian interior ministry.
"The plan provides for the positioning of naval assets and aircraft that can alert Tunisia of departures, so that authorities can intervene in complete autonomy," Lamorgese said.
"This plan obviously assumes Tunisia's full adherence," she said.
