(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JANUARY 14 - Palestinian
parliamentary elections could take place May 22, with
presidential elections to follow two months later, said Azzam
al-Ahmad, a member of both the PLO executive committee as well
as the central committee of Fatah, the party of Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas, in an interview with "Voice of
Palestine" picked up by Palestinian news agency Wafa. In
recent weeks, after announcing that an agreement on elections
had been reached with Hamas, the other political force in
Palestine, Abbas announced the next call for elections, which
had expected for years. Al-Ahmad said Abbas will sign decrees
on the vote on January 20 and that all parties involved must
begin "dialogue and discussions" to ensure the success of the
vote "in the spirit of the law".(ANSAmed). (ANSA).
