(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 21 GEN - EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell received Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Brussels on Thursday, and said last year "was a complicated year in our relations".

"Recently we have seen, from both sides, an improvement in the general atmosphere and some important steps. And this meeting today is also an important step in the direction of searching for a reciprocal strategic interest, the development of a cooperative and reciprocal relationship anchored in common values and principles," Borrell said.

"Another good step is the announced resumption of direct exploratory talks between Turkey and Greece," Borrell said, calling for "continued efforts" and "translating announcements into action".

He said the EU "sincerely hopes for a de-escalation in the Eastern Mediterranean, but also in the broader region".(ANSAmed). (ANSA).
