(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, NOVEMBER 6 - There was celebration in Casablanca and throughout the Moroccan diaspora on November 4 after Wydad defeated Al Ahly of Egypt 1-0 to become African champions for the second time. The winning goal was scored by Walid El Karty in the second half. Wydad Casablanca first won Africa's premier club tournment 25 years ago, against Sudan's Al Hilal.

Saturday's victory is also a financial success given the 2 million plus euros in prize money for the club, in addition to the one million dollars ensured by its participation as the African representative in the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in December. Wydad will make its tournament debut in a quarter final match against Mexico's Pachuca on December 9. (ANSAmed).
