TUNIS - The Tunisian Football Federation (FFT) and French national coach Alain Giresse have parted ways.

Giresse had been the coach of the Carthage Eagles since December 2018.

The FFT made the announcement saying that the French coach had signed an 18-month renewable contract but that it was conditional on performance of the national team, thus judged not at the level of expectations despite getting into the Africa Cup semifinals in June in Egypt.

Giresse, former center-fielder of the French and Bordeaux teams, had replaced Faouzi Benzarti - who was Tunisia coach for less than four months - and left four days after the Carthage Eagles team qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The next friendly matches of the Tunisian team will be on September 6 in Rades (Tunisia) against Mauritania and in Rouen (France) on September 10 against Ivory Coast.
