All-female 'Alyssa' rally in Tunisia readies for 6th edition

Chance for competitors and tourists to admire country's beauty

    TUNIS - Starting December 29 through January 2 the roads of Tunisia will host the 6th edition of the "Rallye Alyssa-Trophée Shell Fuel Save" women's road rally, a recreational sporting event for tourism promotion in which all the race car and motorcycle drivers are female.
    This year's course - which is sponsored by, among others, the Tunisian Tourism Board - stretches across nearly 1,300 kilometres and is divided into five stages.
    Speaking at a press conference, the event's organiser, Taieb Bouhjar, said the rally is also an exciting opportunity for its competitors to explore the country's cultural and touristic wealth.
    A total of 28 all-female teams from around the world are signed up to participate.
    The rally will start in Yasmine Hammamet, and the course then proceeds to Kairouan, Matmata, Chenini, Tataouine, Ksar Ghilane, Gabes and Mahdia. The finish line is back in Yasmine Hammamet, where prizes will be awarded to the winners on January 2.
