Marathon in Marrakech, 13,000 at starting line

    (ANSAmed) - RABAT, JANUARY 21 - Over 13,0000 participants are expected during the weekend in Marrakech for the city's 31st international marathon on January 26. Kenyan Stephan Tum established a record at the marathon of two hours, six minutes and 35 seconds, attracting professionals and amateurs ever since.

    Athletes at the starting line represent 75 countries. The marathon is the most important in Africa and has contributed to launch many athletes including Morocco's Hicham Laqouahi, who has completed the race in two hours, eight minutes and 35 seconds. Along with the marathon and semi-marathon, this edition will include a 3.5-km race for students aged 10 to 13 who will be able to meet with the competition's top runners.

    The marathon's village in Gueliz, in the city's new area, opens on January 23. (ANSAmed).
