(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 16 - The number of Italians who visited Tel Aviv in the first four months of the year grew by 46% over the same period in 2017, said Israeli national tourist office director Avital Kotzer Adari at the presentation of the exhibition ''Tel Aviv The white city'' that will open at Rome's MAXXI museum on Wednesday evening to mark the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel. Of the over 44,000 Italians who have chosen to holiday in Israel at least "half visit Tel Aviv", which each year attracts a total of 4 million visitors. The tourism ministry has recently invested 8 million euros in increasing the tourist offer in the coastal city, where many former offices are now being converted into hotels. The White City grew out of nothing and "represents a success", according to Eldad Golan, the cultural attaché at the Israeli embassy in Rome. It bears witness to the "rebirth of the Jewish people" and provides a European cultural influence in a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean context. (ANSAmed)
