(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, OCTOBER 10 - The Lonely Planet guide book series, the most read in Italy according to 2018 figures from Nielsen BookScan, has decided to publish a "Campania Special", a four-article series highlighting the southern Italian region.

The series aims to introduce the public to the little-known areas of the region through tourist itineraries.

Lonely Planet described the series as "Campania, where the power of volcanoes meets the mystery of the ancient world, the wonder of nature and the freshness of creativity".

The series features Benevento, the Phlegraean Fields, the Cilento, and some spectacular hiking itineraries to showcase Campania.

The initiative was organised by Campania Artecard, the pass created by the region through Scabec, the Campania regional entity for cultural heritage promotion.

In September 2019, Artecard saw an increase of about 25% in its use compared to the same period last year.

With its Campania Special, Lonely Planet will help travellers discover the small gems of the region in four stops.

The first, titled "Five Good Reasons to Discover the Capital of Samnium", is a walk through the characteristic historic centre of Naples, the elegance of Trajan's Arch, and the charm of the contemporary art installations of the Hortus Conclusus.

The second, titled "The Phlegraean Fields: All the Faces of an Invisible Volcano", is an itinerary that brings together archaeological excavations, thermal baths, lakes, and nature parks.

Cilento is featured in the itinerary "Beautiful, Good, Green, and Secret: Why to Visit Cilento", which includes green mountains, a handful of medieval villages perched between kilometres of pristine nature, and a relaxed lifestyle from which the Mediterranean diet emerged.

The fourth itinerary, "Hiking and Archaeology on the Trail of the Volcano", is a relaxing walk through the greenest areas of Campania, including the "Path of the Gods", known as "one of the most enchanting hikes in Italy", and paths at the foot of Vesuvius.(ANSAmed).
