Tunisia reports 7.2 mn tourists as of September, up 14.8%

Revenue up 43.3% compared to 2018

    (ANSAmed) - TUNIS, OCTOBER 10 - Tunisia is experiencing positive growth in its tourism sector, with revenue from tourism at more than 4.4 billion dinars as of September 30, 2019, a 43.4% increase over the same period in 2018, according to statistics released by the country's tourism ministry.

    Tourism revenue reached 1.3 billion euros, up 31.6%, and 1.5 billion dollars, up 23.6%.

    As of September 30, 2019, tourist arrivals reached 7.2 million visitors, up 14.8%, with more than 2.3 million European tourists.

    About 3.5 million tourists were from the Maghreb, of whom two million were Algerians, 1.4 million Libyans, and 66,000 Moroccans; followed by Tunisian expats (1.1 million), Chinese (22,100), and other nationalities (143,000).

    Overnight stays totaled 24 million overall in the first nine months of 2019, a 12% increase.

    Tunisian Tourism Minister René Trabelsi's stated objective is to reach nine million tourists by the end of the year.(ANSAmed).
