France: Air travel strike, disruption increases

07 February, 13:20

(ANSAmed) - PARIS, FEBRUARY 7 - Disruption in French airports is increasing on the second day of strike action by air travel staff, who are protesting against a proposed law that would introduce a minimum guaranteed service in case of strikes, as currently occurs on French railways. At Paris' Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, there are twice as many unexpected cancellations as yesterday, especially as a result of greater participation in the action by pilots. Air France, the worst-affected airline, has alone cancelled nine flights, including one to Milan. The situation is slightly better at Paris Orly airport, where only two flights have so far been grounded. Yesterday, Air France cancelled 33% of its short and medium-haul flights, particularly internal flights on the most commonly-travelled routes, and 12% of long-haul services. The French airline is expecting more difficult conditions today, but has guaranteed 50% of short and medium-haul flights and 70% of long-haul services. Customers are again being offered the chance to postpone travel, with a simplified booking modification system. (ANSAmed).
