Turkey: new call for bids for Anatolia railway

26 November, 13:10

(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, NOVEMBER 26 - The Baskentray project for the modernization of the Sincan-Ankara-Kayas railway in central Anatolia will see a new tender call by next December, the Italian institute for foreign trade ICE in Istanbul said Tuesday.

Turkish state railways TCDD called for bids in April 2012 but the bidding procedure was canceled following a lawsuit.

Seventeen local and international companies had participated.

The winner was the consortium Gulemark-Kolin with an offer under 186,2 million euros. Then Porr Bau GmbH has asked and obtained the bidding process to be suspended with other participants also asking for its annulment.

The 36-km-long Baskentray has been planned to boost Ankara's railway line and integrate it with high-speed lines Ankara-Istanbul, Ankara-Konya and Ankara-Sivas. The project provides for 60 million passengers a year. The reconstruction of the railway line will make the connection between Ankara and Eskisehir faster by one hour and five minutes. (ANSAmed).
