(ANSAmed) - NICOSIA, AUGUST 1 - Cyprus' Defence Minister
Demetris Eliades announced Tuesday the successful completion of
a joint aeronautical search and rescue and unconventional
threats exercise, between Cypriot and French forces at the sea
area south of Limassol. As he said, the exercise conducted under
the coordination of the Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Centre
(JRCC), has followed the common exercise with the French Navy of
last March and an exercise with the German Navy last April.
Eliades, as Famagusta Gazette reports, announced that other
exercises with friendly countries will also follow. "In the area
of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Flight Information
Region (FIR) of Nicosia, the Republic of Cyprus has not only
sovereign rights, but also, responsibilities and obligations
under the international law. In these responsibilities, we can
and we must respond efficiently and reliably, "he said.
