(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, FEBRUARY 26 - The emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has carried out an official visit to Algeria which lasted a few hours. During the visit he met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for talks which the latter said were marked by "total agreement between the two countries on economic, political, regional and international issues", Algerian news agency Aps reports. Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani undertook the last leg of a mini tour that took him last Sunday to Jordan and then Tunisia.

He said he was determined to promote relations between the two countries "in all areas", in particular concerning the economy and investments.

"The Arab world is unfortunately experiencing several crises" and "needs Algeria" which has "a honorable history in terms of solving conflicts in the region and in the Arab world", he said.

Algiers and Doha in 2015 launched the construction of a steel complex with a capacity of 4.2 million tons a year in eastern Algeria, carried out as part of a partnership between Algerian group Sider (51% owned by the Algerian state and 49% by Arcelor Mittal), State-owned company Qatar Steel and public funds.
