Members of the "independent commission said they heard "deeply traumatic" accounts of the events during the 2014 war in the Hamas controlled strip.
"The commissioners and their team of investigators have already spoken to a wide range of witnesses and victims in the Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank, including East Jerusalem," said the commission in a statement run by the Jordan Times English daily.
"The commissioners remain ready to travel to meet witnesses face-to-face if Israel grants them access, or the security situation is safe enough to cross from Egypt into the Gaza Strip," added the statement.
The probe was launched by the UN last year after the Palestinian authority lodged a complaint into the attacks with its mandate to look into "violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, in the context of the Israeli military operations conducted since June 13, 2014." Israel said it would not cooperate with work of the commission and would not allow access to its controlled territories.
The Commission of Inquiry interprets its mandate as including investigations of the activities of Palestinian armed groups in Gaza, including attacks on Israel, as well as the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip and Israeli actions in the West Bank including East Jerusalem. The Commission of Inquiry is looking at a broad range of alleged violations committed by all parties, and is considering the full range of human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights. The Commission of Inquiry will report to the Human Rights Council in March 2015.(ANSAmed).
