Patriarch Irenaeus (Irenej) of the Serbian Orthodox Church
called on believers to unite in hearts and souls with the Serbs
in Kosovo, calling this "our eternal pledge".
It must not be forgotten that Kosovo is both the Serbian Jerusalem and Holy Land, he said. "We especially call on all the faithful to unite, in this silent night, with their hearts and souls with the much-suffering Orthodox Christian Serbs who are faithfully protecting and defending every foot of the holy land of Kosovo which, let us never forget, was the Lord's gift to us as an eternal pledge", Irenaeus wrote in the message.
The church of Jerusalem, the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches as well as ancient Eastern and Eastern Catholic churches, all celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar, on January 7. (ANSAmed).
