MOROCCO: 66 MLN LOAN FROM AFDB TO REFORM ADMINISTRATION
(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, JUNE 26 - The African Development Bank
(AfDB) approved a 66 million loan to fund the third phase of a
Moroccan program to support public administration reform.
The program, known as PARAP III, is aimed to strengthen
public finance management, improve efficiency in human resources
management, control the civil service wage bill and streamline
procedures and introduce e-government, Map news agency reports.
PARAP is meant to promote strong economic growth and sustainable
development in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the
economy while ensuring medium-term macro-economic viability. The
reforms provided for in the program, since inception in 2003,
are due to yield fruits by 2009.
Main expectations include expanding the budget management
pilot experiences to the entire administration, and completing
the new human resources management system (HRM). Up to now, the
program has been instrumental in bringing inflation under
control, thus resulting in a surplus balance of payments,
significant international reserves, reduced public debt GDP
ratio and reduced budget deficit.
Since the launch of its activities in Morocco in 1970, AfDB
has granted Morocco a total of 5.34 billion euro to fund 96
projects and programs. (ANSAmed).
