KOSOVO: UN MISSION TO STAY, ACCORDING TO BAN KI-MOON
(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, OCTOBER 9 - The UN Secretary general,
Ban Ki-Moon, said that the UNMIK mission will stay in Kosovo,
according to Security Council resolution no. 1244.
"Our contribution, in collaboration with the European Union,
is crucial. The UNMIK will keep cooperating with all other
components in the country, even after its reorganization," said
Ban Ki-Moon, quoted today by newspaper Polityka.
"I am glad that the EU, through its EULEX mission, has taken
control of the situation," added the secretary general,
according to whom, plenty of problems are still unresolved in
Kosoco, in particular due to the unstable situation in the north
of the country. "There are no elements to justify (UN's)
withdrawal. We have a security council mandate," Ban said.
The secretary general also added that the International Criminal
Court for crimes in former Yugoslavia, in The Hague, is planning
to close all activities by the end of 2013. In the event that
Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic (the two last wanted Serbian war
criminals) should not be captured by that date, "I think we
will have to plan further mechanisms", said Ban Ki-Moon.
