(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, JUNE 18 - Against the back drop of the
rock engraved city of Petra, King Abdullah of Jordan will
inaugurate today the fourth Nobel Laureates conference bringing
together scientists and celebrities to discuss worldwide
conflicts and other challenges.
The two-day conference will see the participation of 280
international celebrities including 30 Nobel laureates such as
the Dali Lama, Israel former prime minister Shimon Perez, and
international super stars, an official statement said. Laureates
in peace, economics, literature, physics, chemistry and medicine
will be taking part in the event as they will participate in
discussions about challenges facing the world in finance crisis,
food security, bridging the gap between the advanced and
developing countries, added the statement from the Royal Court.
Participants will also pay special attention to the best
learning and teaching strategies which are already being
implemented in worldwide education to provide developing
countries with better chances of education.
The event will see the launch of science fund in the Middle
East at a value of USD10 million, as attendants will lend their
insight on pressing issues in the economic, scientific and
cultural fields, such as energy, soaring oil prices, renewable
energy resources and information technology.
"The fund will assist regional academic and scientific
institutions and help research to reach sustainable
development", said Tareq Awad, director general of the King
Abdullah II Fund for Development, the organizing body of the
event.
Jordanian officials hope the gathering will allow exchange of
views among leaders from various countries, including those
coming from Israel, which remains at a state of war with the
majority of Arab countries.
Jordan is only the second and last Arab country to sign a
peace treaty with Israel after Egypt. (ANSAmed).
