JORDAN: TOURISM NEEDS 25,000 QUALIFIED PEOPLE, MINISTER SAYS
(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, NOVEMBER 20 - Tourism sector in Jordan
needs at least 25,000 qualified people to occupy vacancies in
this ever growing sector, Minister of Tourism minister Maha
Khatib said today.
"It is unacceptable that this sector, which is considered
one of the main pillars of our economy to need this big number
of people at a time when unemployment in the kingdom is high,"
said the minister during a meeting with tourism officials and
representatives of local universities and the civil society. The
minister noted that tourism contributes to nearly 14% of the
kingdom's income. "There are certain specialities that need a
lot of people to work in such as tourism guides and specialists
in museums and hotels," said the minister. Jordan has no
natural resources to help its anaemic economy cope with mounting
pressure, with tourism playing a big role in knowing the budget
deficit thanks to the magnate of Petra, back bone of tourism in
the desert kingdom. (ANSAmed).
