MIDEAST: ZAPATERO IN CAIRO, WORK TOGETHER ON NEGOTIATIONS

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO - If it is true that the peace
process in the Middle East ''has not shown any progress, it is
also true that there have been no steps backwards, and therefore
it is necessary to keep expectations high'', stressed Spanish
Premier, Jose' Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, at the end of a meeting
with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif during his visit today
in Cairo.
''Later I will speak with President Mubarak'', he continued,
''to re-launch negotiations and the peace process. We must work
together''. Zapatero spoke with journalists, together with
Nazif, at the end of an enlarged bilateral meeting between the
two governments, including the participation of the Egyptian
ministers of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Energy and Construction.
In the meeting with Mubarak the Spanish Premier should address
general political issues regarding the region. There is also a
meeting scheduled with the head of the Arab League Amr Mussa.
