ENERGY: EGYPT TO INCREASE RENEWABLE PRODUCTION TO 15%

(ANSAmed) - PALERMO - From today until 2050, the
Egyptian government has planned to bring the production of solar
and wind energy from the current 2-3% to 15%, said Mohammed Atia
El Fayoumi, coordinator of a delegation of Egyptian businesses
in the energy production chain, speaking at a seminar in Palermo
for the partners of Asem, the company for Euro-mediterranean
development, on alternative and renewable energy. At the moment
the most widely-used energy source is oil. But the aim of the
Egyptian State is to promote new ininitiatives in the sector,
with the participation of foreign capital. Of course, there is
room for collaboration with Italy and Sicily in this project for
energy expansion. There will be opportunities for exchange and
partnerships tomorrow during the bilateral meetings between
Italian, Spanish, Tunisian and Egyptian companies which have
signed up for the initiative. In Tunisia Euromed, a private
equity fund (equal to 50 million euros), founded with the aim of
supporting the start-up or expansion of projects in the
countries of North Africa, has invested over 1 million euros is
the development of a Tunisian company in the energy production
chain. This is a company with produces solar energy panels. The
Euromed fund stands beside the business and shares the risk with
it, said manager of Euromed, Stefano Frattini. (ANSAmed)
