The European Commission on Thursday
chided Italy for failing to meet EU norms on beach concessions.
AN EC spokeswoman said "we are continuing the discussion with
Italian authorities".
She said this was taking place at both a technical and political
level.
"The discussion is going on right now, and so we are following
the case closely," she said.
"The situation must be resolved as soon as possible to bring
Italian law into line with EU law".
The EC expects prompt action in the case, she said.
The Italian government recently promised to comply with EC law
on beach concessions.
The EC has taken issue, in particular, with the extension of
concessions until 2023.
