A retired army general was
arrested in Naples Wednesday in connection with rigged
competitions for volunteers that gave access to the police and
armed forces, ANSA sources said.
Former general Luigi Masiello, who runs a training school,
was placed under house arrest.
Police issued 15 arrest warrants in all.
When tax police arrived at the school to arrest Masiello, he
threw away his cellphone, police said.
The retired general stood in local elections in Naples in
2016, backing a centre-left ticket.
He got 323 votes and was not elected.
