A 45-year-old woman has told police
she was raped by a man she described as a "foreigner" while out
walking her dog in a Milan park on Wednesday evening.
The woman was taken to a Milan hospital in code yellow.
The alleged attack took place in the Monte Stella Park, at La
Montagnetta di San Siro, in the northwest of the Lombard capital
not far from AC Milan soccer stadium.
According to an initial reconstruvtion, the woman was attacked
from behind by the man, probably an African, who threw her to
the ground, raped her, and fled, police said.
The woman, despite suffering from severe shock, alerted a jogger
who gave the alarm.
The Milan flying squad said it would ask the women for more
details about her assailant and the rape as soon as she feels
well enough to be questioned.
Monte Stella is a high-density residential area and is well
policed, police said.
Police said it was considered a relatively safe area, especially
during the day.
Nationalist opposition League leader Matteo Salvini said the
episode showed that "Milan is ever less safe".
Mariastella Gelmini of Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right
opposition Forza Italia party called on Milan's centre-left
mayor, Giuseppe Sala, to "do something about security in Milan".
