The Vatican on Thursday
issued a new guide to help bishops handle cases of clerical sex
abuse of minors.
The guide as issued by the Vatican office that deals with
predator priest cases, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the
Faith, formerly the Holy Inquisition.
The 'vademecum' lays down the procedures to be followed over
allegations of clerical sex abuse of minors.
"The desire is that this instrument may help dioceses,
institutions of consecrated life and the societies of apostolic
life, the episcopal conferences and the various ecclesiastical
regions to better understand and enact the demands for justice
of a grave sin (delictum gravius) that constitutes, for the
whole Church, a deep and painful wound that demans to be
healed".
Pope Francis has repeatedly vowed a zero tolerance approach to
the issue of priestly child sexual abuse.
Some victims' groups say he has not done enough.
