(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 31 JUL - A total of 593.983 confirmed
cases of COVID-19 (+5731 day-on-day) were registered since the
beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern
Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of
national authorities collected by the World Health Organization
(WHO) by July 30. In the past week, the growth of COVID-19
cases in the region was particularly strong in the Western
Balkans, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine, according to
data updated as of July 27. Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia,
Montenegro and Kosovo are now registering more confirmed total
cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy. The total
number of fatalities in the region is 20531 (+130), of which
9128 registered in Germany, 2269 in Romania, 1694 in Poland,
1673 in Ukraine 762 in Moldova, 716 in Austria, 596 in Hungary,
558 in Serbia, 553 in Belarus. The highest number of cases of
COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (206926, no data
in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (68974, +1197),
Belarus (67655, +147), Romania (48235, +1182), Poland (44416,
+512), Serbia (24892, +372), Moldova (23947, +426), Austria
(20846, +164), and Czechia (16093, +294). In Slovenia, Croatia,
Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania)
128922 confirmed cases and 4624 deaths were registered as of
July 30. In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has
registered about 7129 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants,
followed by Moldova (5936), North Macedonia (5055), Montenegro
(4856) and Kosovo (4311), compared to 4080 in Italy, while the
lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (412 per million) and
Greece (403 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on
WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the
highest number of deaths per one million population (229),
followed by Moldova (189), Romania (117) and Germany (110),
Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 581 deaths
per million inhabitants. Between July 20 and July 27, the
highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in
Montenegro (+61,0%), Kosovo (+24,6%), Bosnia-Herzegovina
(+22,2%), Romania (+19,6%) and Bulgaria (+19,4%). Only in
Austria, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Belarus
and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was below 5%.
