(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 22 LUG - A total of 543.848 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3830 day-on-day), were registered since the beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by July 21. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was particularly strong in the Western Balkans, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania in the past week, according to data updated as of July 20. Belarus, Moldova and North Macedonia are now registering more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 19530 (+97), out of which 9090 registered in Germany, 2038 in Romania, 1627 in Poland, 1518 in Ukraine 711 in Austria, 697 in Moldova, 596 in Hungary, 503 in Belarus, 482 in Serbia.

The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (202345, +522 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (66213, +118), Ukraine (60166, +673), Poland (40383, +279), Romania (38139, +681), Serbia (21253, +359), Moldova (21115, +135), Austria (19679, +108), and Czechia (14098, +153). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 104350 confirmed cases and 4026 deaths were registered as of July 21.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 6976 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (5234) and North Macedonia (4453), compared to 4045 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (373 per million) and Slovakia (363 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (208), followed by Moldova (173) and Germany (109), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 580 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between July 13 and July 20, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+45,0%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+22,8%), Croatia (+17,0%), Kosovo (+16,4%), Bulgaria (+16,1%), Romania (+15,1%), Albania (+14,5%), Serbia (+13,8%) and North Macedonia (+12,8%). Only in Slovakia, Austria, Lithuania, Hungary, Belarus, Latvia, Germany and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
