(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 07 AGO - A total of 636,632 confirmed
cases of COVID-19 (+6824 day-on-day) were registered since the
beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern
Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of
national authorities collected by the World Health Organization
(WHO) by August 6.
In the past week, the growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was
particularly strong in Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Romania,
according to data updated as of August 3. Belarus, Moldova,
North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo are now registering more
confirmed total cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.
The total number of fatalities in the region is 21481 (+167), of which 9175 registered in Germany, 2521 in Romania, 1819 in Ukraine, 1756 in Poland, 823 in Moldova, 719 in Austria, 614 in Serbia, 599 in Hungary, 577 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (213067, +1045 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (76808, +1318), Belarus (68376, +126), Romania (56550, +1309), Poland (48789, +640), Serbia (27033, +295), Moldova (26222, +408), Austria (21575, +103). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 146795 confirmed cases and 5210 deaths were registered as of August 6.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7240 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6500), Montenegro (5451), North Macedonia (5435), and Kosovo (5220), compared to 4114 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (462 per million) and Slovakia (443 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (246), followed by Moldova (204), Kosovo (146), Romania (130), Germany (110) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (107), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 582 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 27 and August 3, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Kosovo (+23,4%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+19,0%) and Romania (+18,7%). (ANSA).
