(ANSA) - SOFIA, 09 OTT - SOFIA, OCTOBER 9 - Yesterday, for
the 92nd day in a row, popular demonstrations took place in
Sofia to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Boyko
Borissov and Attorney General Ivan Gheshev, accused of
corruption and arbitration, and of serving interests of
oligarchs and mafia, and not those of citizens. Bulgarian media
underlined that the main event commented on by those who took to
the streets was yesterday's resolution of the European
Parliament on the significant deterioration of the rule of law,
democracy, and fundamental rights, including the independence of
the judiciary, the separation of powers, the fight against
corruption and media freedom in Bulgaria. According to the
protesters, the European Parliament's resolution is "the
beginning of the end of Borissov's era," which "is leading
Bulgaria out of the EU." Representatives of the center-right
ruling party Gerb, a member of the EPP, whose leader is premier
Borissov, called the resolution "a derogatory slander." (ANSA).
