Covid-19: from October 17, Immuni will also work in the EU

It will communicate with other national apps

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, SEPTEMBER 30 - Italy, Germany, and Ireland will be the first countries to be able to connect, from October 17, to the EU system, that allows dialogue between national apps for tracking Covid infections, ensuring their operation across the border. ANSA reported citing level Commission officials.

The system is called Gateway and does not require the installation of a new app. When abroad, all users will be able to send or receive reports in case of infections or contacts with infected people, just like in national territories.

In the EU, 15 countries have adopted or are about to adopt a tracking app: Italy, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, Holland, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic. Three more countries (Belgium, Cyprus, and Lithuania) will join in the coming days.

The average of downloads is 10%. The European Commission urges to increase them, guaranteeing personal data protection and underlining that even one more download can significantly impact the traceability of infections and response to the virus. (ANSA)
