(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 12 AGO - A total of 668,158 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+5021 day-on-day) were registered since the beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities collected by the World Health Organization (WHO) by August 11. In the past week, the growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was particularly strong in Greece, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania, according to data updated as of August 10. Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo are now registering more confirmed total cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 22180 (+114), of which 9201 registered in Germany, 2729 in Romania, 1951 in Ukraine, 1809 in Poland, 850 in Moldova, 723 in Austria, 646 in Serbia, 605 in Hungary, 589 in Belarus.

The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (217293, +966 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (83115, +1158), Belarus (68947, +97), Romania (62547, +779), Poland (52410, +619), Serbia (28262, +163), Moldova (27841, +181), Austria (22122, +101). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 159141 confirmed cases and 5643 deaths were registered as of August 11.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7264 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6902), Montenegro (5884), North Macedonia (5760) and Kosovo (5733), compared to 4147 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Hungary (484 per million) and Slovakia (477 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (254), followed by Moldova (211), Kosovo (183), Romania (141), Bosnia-Herzegovina (114), Germany and Montenegro (111), Slovakia the lowest (6). Italy has recorded around 582 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between August 3 and August 10, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Greece (+20,6%), Kosovo (+16,5%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+16,5%), Albania (+16,2%) and Romania (+16,1%). (ANSA).
