Greece slams Turkish decision to send out research ship

Oruc Reis will carry out activities also near Kastellorizo

(ANSA-AFP) - ATHENS, 12 OTT - Greece's foreign ministry on Monday condemned Turkey's decision to send back to the eastern Mediterranean the research ship at the centre of an energy rights row. The move is a "direct threat to regional peace and security," the ministry said in a statement.

Turkey announced plans late Sunday to send the research ship at the centre of an energy rights row with Greece to the eastern Mediterranean again, a move likely to reignite tensions with Athens. The Turkish navy said the Oruc Reis vessel would carry out activities in the region, including the south of the Greek island of Kastellorizo, from Monday until October 22 in a message sent to the maritime alert system NAVTEX.
