Serbia: Belgrade approved a new method for EU negotiations

President Vucic announced, during his talks with Macron

10 July, 15:01
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 10 LUG - Serbia has accepted the new method for the enlargement process and the accession negotiations launched by the EU last February, said President Aleksandar Vucic, who met Emmanuel Macron in Paris yesterday evening.

"I have communicated to President Macron, and I will officially confirm this decision at the video-summit (today on Kosovo, ed.), that Serbia accepts the new method, proposed by President Macron," said Vucic quoted by the media in Belgrade.

This reform provides for greater political involvement of EU governments in the negotiations for the accession of new countries, starting with those of the western Balkans. These countries will be able to monitor the progress the candidate countries make in key sectors, such as the rule of law and the democratic system. Among other things, it will be possible to take significant measures to sanction any setback in the reform process. (ANSA).
