06 August, 10:58The total number of fatalities in the region is 21314 (+163), of which 9168 registered in Germany, 2480 in Romania, 1788 in Ukraine, 1738 in Poland, 810 in Moldova, 719 in Austria, 605 in Serbia, 598 in Hungary, 574 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (212022, +741 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (75490, +1271), Belarus (68250, +84), Romania (55241, +1232), Poland (48149, +680), Serbia (26738, +287), Moldova (25814, +332), Austria (21472, +131). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 144072 confirmed cases and 5123 deaths were registered as of August 5.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7190 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6399), North Macedonia (5393), Montenegro (5364) and Kosovo (5100), compared to 4107 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (451 per million) and Slovakia (434 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (243), followed by Moldova (201), Kosovo (143), Romania (128), Germany (110) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (105), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 582 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 27 and August 3, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Kosovo (+23,4%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+19,0%) and Romania (+18,7%). (ANSA).
