08 August, 10:55The total number of fatalities in the region is 21659 (+175), of which 9183 registered in Germany, 2566 in Romania, 1852 in Ukraine, 1774 in Poland, 828 in Moldova, 719 in Austria, 621 in Serbia, 600 in Hungary, 580 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (214214, +1147 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (78261, +1453), Belarus (68403, +127), Romania (57895, +1345), Poland (49515, +726), Serbia (27332, +299), Moldova (26628, +406), Austria (21689, +114). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 149278 confirmed cases and 5318 deaths were registered as of August 7.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7217 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6601), North Macedonia (5488), Kosovo (5329) and Montenegro (5149), compared to 4120 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Hungary (470 per million) and Slovakia (455 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (249), followed by Moldova (205), Kosovo (160), Romania (132), Germany (110) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (108), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 582 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 27 and August 3, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Kosovo (+23,4%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+19,0%) and Romania (+18,7%). (ANSA).
