Coronavirus:over 278.000 cases in New Europe, 10.833 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 05 MAG - A total of 278.361 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3965 day-on-day), of which 163175 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 4. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is slowing down, in particular in Lithuania, Montenegro and Slovakia, with the exception of Belarus and Ukraine in particular, where the numbers are still growing fast.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 10.833 (+135), out of which 6692 registered in Germany, 780 in Romania, 678 in Poland, 598 in Austria, 351 in Hungary, 303 in Ukraine, 248 in Czechia, 193 in Serbia, 144 in Greece, 128 in Moldova, 103 in Belarus.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (163175, +679 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (17489, +1661), Austria (15597, +39), Poland (13693, +318), Romania (13163, +431), Ukraine (12331, +418), Serbia (9464, +102), Czechia (7781, +26), Moldova (4121, +69), Hungary (3035, +37), Greece (2626, +6), Croatia (2096, +8), Bosnia-Herzegovina (1857, +100), Estonia (1700, +1), Bulgaria (1618, +24), North Macedonia (1511, +5), Slovenia (1439), Lithuania (1410, +4), Slovakia (1408, +1), Latvia (879, +8), Kosovo (851, +28), Albania (795), and Montenegro (322).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 33995 confirmed cases and 1.463 deaths were registered until May 3st.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany has registered about 1962 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3484 in Italy, followed by Belarus (1843), Austria (1752), Moldova (1537), and Serbia (1359), while the lowest rate was observed in Bulgaria (231 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. Germany has registered also the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (80), followed by Austria (67) and Moldova (48) and Slovenia (46), Slovakia the lowest (4). Italy has recorded around 475 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between April 27 and May 4, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was registered in Belarus (+67.2%), followed by Ukraine (+36,9 %), and Bulgaria (+24,5%), while in Germany, Czechia, Greece, Estonia, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Montenegro and Lithuania the weekly increase is now below 5%.

Between April 20 and April 27, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was registered in Belarus (+118,9%), followed by Ukraine (+57,8%), Kosovo (+42,6%), Bulgaria (42,1%), Moldova (+37,1%) and Hungary (+30,2%), the lowest in Austria (+3,3%), Montenegro (+4,2%) and Slovenia (+5,8%). Between April 13 and April 20, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+85.4%), Ukraine (+84.1%), Serbia (+74.0%), Slovakia (+56.5%) and Moldova (+48.7%), the lowest in Austria (+5.5%), Greece (+5.7%) and Slovenia (+10.4%). Between April 6 and April 12, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+296,1%), Ukraine (+110,5%), Kosovo (+95,2%), Hungary (+89,5%), Moldova (+80,6%) and Serbia (+80,6%), the lowest in Austria (+15,2%), Latvia (+18,2%), Albania (+18,3%), Estonia (+18,9%) and Slovenia (+19,2%).

Previously, between March 30 and April 5, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+368%), Moldova (+186%), Ukraine (+160%), Montenegro (+132%) and Serbia (+119%). (ANSA).
