(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUNE 29 - A total of 457.452 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3106 day-on-day), were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by June 29. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was particularly strong in Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia in the past week, according to data updated as of June 29. Belarus and Moldova are now registering more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 17.380 (+88), out of which 8961 registered in Germany, 1612 in Romania, 1438 in Poland, 1147 in Ukraine 702 in Austria, 581 in Hungary, 533 in Moldova, 383 in Belarus 348 in Czechia, 286 in North Macedonia, 270 in Serbia, 219 in Bulgaria. Between June 22 and June 29, the highest growth of the total number of COVID19-related fatalities was recorded in Kosovo (+46,2%), Albania (+31,8%), Montenegro (+22,2%) and North Macedonia (+20,2%).

The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (193761, +262 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (61475, +380), Ukraine (43628, +646), Poland (33907, +193), Romania (26313, +291), Austria (17625, +63), Moldova (16250, +170), Serbia (14046, +254) and Czechia (11603, +305). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 65102 confirmed cases and 2891 deaths were registered as of June 29.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 6477 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (4028) and North Macedonia (2933), compared to 3973 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (314 per million) and Slovakia (305 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (138), followed by Moldova (132) and Germany (108), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 574 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between June 22 and June 29, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+32,9%), Kosovo (+23,9%), Albania (+23,6%), Bulgaria (+20,1%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+19,7%) and North Macedonia (+19,3%). In Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece, Austria, Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
