Coronavirus: 554.000+ cases in New Europe,19.768 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 24 LUG - A total of 554.752 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+5733 day-on-day), were registered since the beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by July 23. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was particularly strong in the Western Balkans, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania in the past week, according to data updated as of July 20. Belarus, Moldova and North Macedonia are now registering more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 19768 (+127), out of which 9101 registered in Germany, 2101 in Romania, 1642 in Poland, 1551 in Ukraine 713 in Moldova, 711 in Austria, 596 in Hungary, 513 in Belarus, 499 in Serbia.

The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (203368, +569 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (66521, +173), Ukraine (61851, +856), Poland (41162, +380), Romania (40163, +1030), Serbia (22031, +426), Moldova (21798, +356), Austria (20038, +359), and Czechia (14570, +246). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 109747 confirmed cases and 4169 deaths were registered as of July 23.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7008 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (5404) and North Macedonia (4596), compared to 4051 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (379 per million) and Slovakia (378 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (213), followed by Moldova (177), Germany (109) and Romania (108), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 580 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between July 13 and July 20, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+45,0%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+22,8%), Croatia (+17,0%), Kosovo (+16,4%), Bulgaria (+16,1%), Romania (+15,1%), Albania (+14,5%), Serbia (+13,8%) and North Macedonia (+12,8%). Only in Slovakia, Austria, Lithuania, Hungary, Belarus, Latvia, Germany and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
