Coronavirus: 623,000+ cases in New Europe,21.159 died
05 August, 09:18The total number of fatalities in the region is 21159 (+110), of which 9156 registered in Germany, 2432 in Romania, 1764 in Ukraine, 1732 in Poland, 800 in Moldova, 718 in Austria, 598 in Serbia, 597 in Hungary, 571 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (211281, +879 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (74219, +1061), Belarus (68166, +99), Romania (54009, +823), Poland (47469, +823), Serbia (26451, +258), Moldova (25482, +120), Austria (21341, +32). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 141461 confirmed cases and 5017 deaths were registered as of August 4.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7182 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6317), North Macedonia (5363), Montenegro (5269) and Kosovo (4976), compared to 4104 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Greece (440 per million) and Slovakia (432 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (241), followed by Moldova (198), Kosovo (136) and Romania (125), Slovakia the lowest (5).
Italy has recorded around 581 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 27 and August 3, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Kosovo (+23,4%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+19,0%) and Romania (+18,7%). (ANSA).
