Coronavirus: 613.000+ cases in New Europe,20.928 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 03 AGO - A total of 613.401 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+5765 day-on-day) were registered since the beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities collected by the World Health Organization (WHO) by August 2. In the past week, the growth of COVID-19 cases in the region was particularly strong in the Western Balkans, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine, according to data updated as of July 27.

Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo are now registering more confirmed total cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 20928 (+119), of which 9141 registered in Germany, 2379 in Romania, 1725 in Ukraine, 1721 in Poland, 789 in Moldova, 718 in Austria, 597 in Hungary, 582 in Serbia, 563 in Belarus.

The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (209883, +240 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (72168, +1112), Belarus (67946, +138), Romania (52111, +1225), Poland (46346, +658), Serbia (25882, +330), Moldova (25113, +380), Austria (21224, +216). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 137159 confirmed cases and 4875 deaths were registered as of August 2.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7158 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6225), North Macedonia (5248), Montenegro (5154) and Kosovo (4702), compared to 4098 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (429 per million) and Greece (426 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (237), followed by Moldova (196), Kosovo (125) and Romania (123), Slovakia the lowest (5).

Italy has recorded around 581 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between July 20 and July 27, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+61,0%), Kosovo (+24,6%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+22,2%), Romania (+19,6%) and Bulgaria (+19,4%). Only in Austria, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Belarus and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was below 5%. (ANSA).
